Rat menace in Mkg: DC calls for joint fight

Mokokchung district administration expressing concern over rodent menace reports, receiving from several villages under the district, has called for a concerted effort to deal with the situation. Addressing the monthly DPDB meeting Tuesday, the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung Lithrongla G. Chishi said this problem should not be left with the Agriculture department alone as it has serious implications in the entire community.
In connection with this, the DC urged all administrative officers in the district to remain vigil in their respective areas. She also instructed the officers to submit report on the situation from villages under their respective jurisdiction. State Agriculture Research Station (SARS), Yisemyong, project director Tekatoshi, briefing the members on rodent menace, said present rodent problem was the result of bamboo flowering in one of the bamboo species “Bambussa Pallida.” The project director said that the need of the hour was to make community approach to deal with the situation.
Further, calling upon all heads of officers to play their role, the DC said agriculture department had to play a big role to control the situation by launching mass awareness campaign in the district.
Meanwhile, on sanitation issue, the DC directed medical department to conduct surprise inspection in all the hostels at Mokokchung town to ascertain their sanitation status. Also, reminding all heads of officers in the district to control attendance of their subordinates, the Mokokchung DC said she had received complaints from public about poor attendance. She disclosed that a committee had been constituted to conduct surprise checking of offices in the district.
