DVC condemns threat

Diphupar village council (DPC), Dimapur has condemned the threat on Diphupar women welfare society chairperson September 1 last by some unidentified miscreants, equipped with firearms, purportedly over some liquor prohibition in the village. According to a DVC statement, issued by its chairman K. Kapfo, the council had resolved to enforce total prohibition on liquor and other intoxicating substances within its jurisdiction w.e.f August 1, 2010. Stating that prohibition exercise has been going on successfully with retrospective effect, the council chairman said to utter disregard to village council resolution, the chairperson of DWWS was threatened by miscreants. In connection with this, the village bodies met August 4 and vowed to award “rigorous punishment’ to such “anti-social elements” if apprehended. Further, pointing out that prohibition drive was promulgated on the strength of entire citizen of Diphupar, the village council said it was illogical to single out particular individual. Meanwhile, the meet reaffirmed to implement the prohibition of liquor and other intoxicants in letter and spirit.
