Reacting to the 10-day deadline issued by Hills Area Trucks Owners’ Association (HATOA) to repair roads/bridges on NH-202 between Mokokchung and Tuensang, PWD National Highway Circle-II Kohima has clarified that repair and restoration works were in progress.
A press release issued by PWD (NH) Circle-II superintending engineer, Er. N. Ghokuto Sema clarified that department had already issued work orders to contractors for the entire stretch of the road except for two locations, at 41km-50km and 80km-88km. He also said DPRs have been submitted to ministry of road transport and national highways (MORTH) for early sanction. Highlighting that the old STHB/DSBB bridges between Mokokchung and Tuensang constructed by the BRO during 1969-72 have reached “unserviceable stage” due to constant use, Ghokuto said department has accordingly submitted DPR to the ministry to replace the old bridges by constructing new RCC T-beam bridges. He further pointed out that state minister for roads & bridges, G. Kaito Aye and department chief engineer have personally inspected the ongoing bridge restoration work on August 2 last. In this connection, public of the region around Tuensang district and all associations have been requested to cooperate with department as it worked towards ensuring an easy comfortable passage, the superintending engineer added.
