A water supply scheme for Meluri town was inaugurated by Minister for PHE, Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao on August 19. Speaking on the occasion, Minister stressed on importance of potable water for health and hence the need to sustain the scheme, by active participation of the beneficiary. He further appreciated the field officers and staff, of PHE department as well as active participation of the members of Pochury People’s Forum (PPF) for implementing the scheme within ten months. The inaugural function was attended by local MLA and parliamentary secretary, Yitachu, Secretary, PHE, Zhaleo Rio, IAS, and department officers, with members of PPF and a host of government local officials and dignitaries.
The chief guest and other speakers appreciated Zhipu village for allowing the water to be tapped from the Kuyatu source, which is 19 kilometers away from the town. The scheme, with a design period of 30 years, would cater to water requirement of the town, till 2031, and present population to get 236 liters per capita per day. The projected population of 2031 is 10726 and would get 75 liters per capita per day.
