Workers at Nagaland Pulp and Paper Company Limited (NPPCL), Tuli have expressed anguish over non-payment of their salaries and as a result of which they were “dying of hunger”
According to NPPCL workers’ union, even their children’s education has been totally destroyed because of their inability to pay up the school and hostel fees on time.
The NPPCL Workers Union, also revealed that their children studying far away in towns, were forced to discontinue studies and return home.
Maintaining that though they had appealed to the authority and management of NPPCL/HPCL several times for release of their salaries, the Union said till date there was no positive action taken by the authority responsible.
“It is unfortunate enough that workers/employees of NPPCL are dying of hunger and the concerned authority of NPPCL/HPCL are in sound sleep,” the Union said. It also alleged that authorities were planning to destroy the life of innocent workers.
It may be noted that NPPCL is a joint venture of the government of Nagaland and the Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL), a government of India enterprises; the HPCL is the holding company of NPPCL.
