NC suspends deadline

Following the state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio’s assurance to set up a Committee to look into the Naga Commission and thereby place before the cabinet for decision for which sufficient time was requested by the government, the Naga Council has temporarily suspended the deadline arrived at on August 18 till further information. On the chief minister’s invitation, a 15-member Naga Council team met Rio at his residential office Kohima Thursday. According to a statement issued by Naga Council general secretary, Ntsemo Ngullie, the chief minister accompanied by the finance commissioner, Toshi Aier, told the Naga Council team that the government would set up a committee to look into the Naga Commission and requested sufficient time for that purpose. Empowered by the public meeting of August 18 and as a gesture of goodwill, the Naga Council said it agreed to give sufficient time and await government’s judicious decision. The Council has expressed gratitude to all tribal units, leaders and public for valuable cooperation and solicited kind co-operation of all concerned.
