KVK conducts training at Rotomi village
DIMAPUR: A day long training programme was conducted at Rotomi village by Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia (SMS) Animal Science on backyard poultry production and prevention and control of poultry disease where a total of 36 farmers were encouraged to go for poultry farming with the help of improved strains like Vanaraja, Grampryia, Krishibro etc.
Farmers were also imparted training on Economic swine production where main emphasis was given on selection of breed, feeding, farrowing and post farrowing management, disease management and economics of swine production. SMS (horticulture) Edenly Chishi imparted training on citrus decline and rejuvenation of mandarin orange, post harvest management /cultivation of pineapple along with value addition of pineapple where a total of 35 farmers participated. Latter they were imparted training on cultivation of pineapple as well as preparation of pineapple squash was demonstrated.
Rodent control campaign in Wokha
DIMAPUR: Department of agriculture commenced a special rodent control campaign in Middle and Lower ranges of Wokha district on receiving the report of high incidence of rat population in the Jhum fields from August 19; in addition to the awareness trainings conducted for the farmers in the month of April. These technical awareness trainings is being conducted in the affected villages with the distribution of rodenticides in order to manage the outbreak of rodents due to the gregarious bamboo flowering in the foothill areas of the district.
In this connection, farming communities have been requested to co-operate with the department to tackle the outbreak and DAOs to be alert in monitoring pest situation in their respective areas. Director of agriculture, A.Y Ovung stated that the department is trying its best to manage the rodent outbreak in Wokha and Mokokchung districts with the resources available with the department and also appealed for extending assistance to the farming community.
Kohima district monthly review meet
DIMAPUR: Kohima district monthly review meeting of medical officers was held on August 12 at chief medical office (CMO) conference hall. RCH, immunization, VHND reporting, malaria, execution of work were some of the topics which were discussed during the meeting. Senior medical officers (CHCs) of the district gave presentations on performances of previous year till date. CMO Kohima, Dr. L. Ralte has informed that MOs of Chunlikha, Mezoma and Zhadima PHCs would be giving their presentations at the next review meeting.
