A special North East Expo is underway here at the Lotha Tribal Council (LTC) Hall, Wokha town. The Expo, organized by the Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd and sponsored by the office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi, was inaugurated by the deputy commissioner Wokha, Rovilatuo Mor on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mor said handloom and handcrafts offered great potentials to be easily taken up by Naga entrepreneurs because they are more or less inherent in Naga culture and tradition.
Mor said if Nagas could make improvements in the use of color and designs blended with modern taste then those products would be rare specialties in the world market. He also pointed out that Naga products should have properly marked channels linked with the departments and nodal agencies. Handloom and handcrafts was a primary industry only next to agriculture, Mor added. All together thirty five stalls have been put up for sales and exhibition comprising of Self Help Groups, Cooperatives Societies, NGOs and upcoming entrepreneurs from Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.
The expo would be open till August 28. In this regard, NHHDC manager Womomo Lotha who is also the Expo in-charge, has requested all public to visit the expo.
