Following an assurance given by the minister for roads and bridges on August 20 to accommodate the local contractors (Lotha and Rengma), the contractors belonging to the two communities have “temporarily suspended” their proposed indefinite NH 61 bandh which was to be effected from August 24. The contractors, however, said their earlier resolution of August 17 not to allow any contractor to execute the work in their area would still stand till the rights of the local contractors was accommodated and written assurance given to the union by the concerned Nagaland minister. The decision to suspend the bandh was taken during a joint meeting of the contractors and Rengma and Lotha Hoho and its frontal organizations at Satsuphen on August 21. Meanwhile, Sumi Hoho extended support the NH 61 bandh called by the contractors who were protesting against the government for not allotting works to the registered local contractors. Sumi Hoho in a statement issued by its president, Hokishe Yepthomi also appreciated its former president, H. S. Rotokha and “fully supported” his statement on Naga Hoho which appeared on August 19.
