UPDS militants arrested in Assam

Two runaway United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) militants were apprehended with two assualt rifles in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Sunday, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and army’s Rajputana Rifles launched an operation and apprehended two militants of Karbi
Anglong-based rebel group UPDS from a bus at Bakuliaghat in the district.
‘’The duo revealed that they had fled from the UPDS camp and reached Diphu in a bus,’’ Bakuliaghat police station officer Dilip Saikia said.
Security forces seized two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and 16 rounds of live ammunition from them. The UPDS had signed a cease fire agreement with the Union Government on May 23, 2002.
