Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Saturday defended allegations of allotment of more funds under the non-lapsable central pool of resources (NLCPR) to his Ampati Assembly constituency.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma recently sent a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh alleging that the chief minister had diverted more funds to his constituency in West Garo Hills, neglecting others.
The chief minister said the foremost priority of the state government was empowerment of youths and therefore sports activities needed to be given priority.
He said more projects were in the offing, which would be used for the uplift of the overall development of the state.
The chief minister said other sports stadia in the state would also be upgraded in days to come.
P.A. Sangma had petitioned both the Prime Minister and DoNER minister B.K. Handique that the proposal should be returned to the state government. Several legislators had also pointed out that there was lack of transparency in allocating funds to the power projects in the state.
The other projects under the NLCPR are the Rs 250-crore Killing power line, Rs 75-crore Palatana-Bongaigaon power line and Rs 20-crore Jowai power line.
