Speeding vehicle claim two lives

Dimapur, Aug 22 (NPN): The ill-fated vehicle Bolero (NL 10-5576) belonging to P. Olem Longkumer assistant director, department of printing and stationery, which met with an accident on Friday about 100 meters away Chumukedima police check gate reportedly skidded off to the Chathe river, while the driver Purtemjen Jamir was trying to overtake another vehicle.
Police sources, quoting some eye witnessed said the driver of the ill fated vehicle had overtaken number of vehicles and had the habit of driving fast.
Meanwhile, the body of P. Olem Longkumer was fished out from the river at 4th mile, near Referral hospital around 7.30 am on Saturday the next day while the body of the driver was retrieved from the river on day of the accident. Police sources also said that no post mortem was conducted for both the deceased.
According to some eye witnesses, a lady’s bag was also found at the accident site which indicated that another female occupant might have been in the same vehicle while the accident occurred, however police could not confirm the report till filing of this report.
The funeral service of P. Olem Longkumer was held at his private residence at 4th mile, Saturday. A case has been registered and investigations are in the process, police sources said, Sunday.
