Karbi Anglong has become another hunting ground for trafficking of girls by pimps and brothel owners who lure them with promises of lucrative jobs in the metro cities. This surfaced recently after guardians of the four girls from Dhansiri disclosed that the girls were lured by the offers but forced into prostitution and making porn films .
Guardians of the four girls disclosed that one Gayatri Pradhan (25) who was born and brought up at Dhansiri locality, had sold the four girls to a brothel in Siliguri town of North Bengal on two different occasions after promising them with lucrative jobs.
The four girls were identified as Santi Bengra (24), of Nagachan, Remila Koya (20) of Dawjingphang Dhansiri, Kikim Lenthang (22) of Kuku Bhakat Bosti Dhansiri and Thimnu Hengna (25). The girls are still untraceable and the accused absconding.
Speaking to this correspondent, the guardians revealed that, Gayatri Pradhan had first approached two Adivasi girls, Santi Bengra and Remila Koya and promised them jobs in a garment factory in Bangalore with high salary. She left Diphu along with the two girls on June 6 and stayed at a hotel in Siliguri town where they were sold to a brother owner the next day. Using the same modus operandi, Pradhan convinced two Kuki girls namely Kikim Lenthang and Thimnu Hengna. She left Diphu on July 4 along with her two victims and sold them to the same brothel owner in Siliguri.
However, things did not go according to plan on the third occasion for Pradhan, when another two Kuki girls of Thingpijang village of Dhansiri area who left Diphu on July 30, were taken to a hotel in Siliguri. While Pradhan was out, the two girls, who got suspicious raised a hue and cry. Hearing their cries, the manager of the hotel arranged for their return journey to Guwahati but only after forcing them into “immoral business” for the night.
After their return, the two Kuki girls revealed the entire story to the Diphu Police. Guardians of the victims alleged that both Diphu and Dhansiri police had not responded appropriately when informed of the matter. They alleged the police acted in a casual manner after arresting the main accused link Gayatri Pradhan.
Gayatri Pradhan, Nepali is married to a Bengali, Vijay Dey and residing at Mithiphang – Dillaji locality of Diphu town. Parents of the girls who remained untraced claim that Gayatri Pradhan has confessed her crime before them.
The guardians further claim that all the four girls were forced into prostitution and even made to act blue films by Gayatri Pradhan at Siliguri.
