Naga Council Dimapur held a special meeting on September 18 and deliberated over several issues including the recent police firing on innocent demonstrators at Golaghat, and FNR-initiated highest level leadership conclave among Naga political groups.
NCD condemned the September 15 incident at Golaghat where several civilians and students were injured when IRB convoy from Nagaland fired to disperse crowd on Golaghat stretch of NH-39, who were protesting against its government for lack of development.
Council appealed for calm among people from both sides of the border and to leave room for representatives of both governments of Assam and Nagaland to sort out the matter.
Council also appreciated the restrain by AASU and citizens of Golaghat area over the issue, and further assured all possible cooperation with the neighbouring state in maintaining peace and goodwill.
Meanwhile, NCD appreciated and welcomed the efforts of FNR in striving to bring Naga “political groups” to meet at the highest level of leadership. Council maintained that it was imperative for the welfare of Nagas in view of the tenacious struggle for solution.
NCD urged the leaders of the Naga groups to take the step forward towards ushering in peace and solution to the people. “We reaffirm our unflinching support to the initiatives of the political groups in striving to bring honourable solution to the indo-Naga issue,” the council stated in a joint press statement issued here by its president Savi Liegise and general secretary Ntsemo Ngullie. Further, NCD reaffirmed its support to FNR in its endeavours for peace and reconciliation.
