Kiphire town has been reeling under darkness for more than 15 days with all normal activities coming to a complete halt due to non restoration of power transformer. A source from the electrical department Kiphire on Wednesday said outdated transformer was still under repair in Dimapur which may take several weeks to reach Kiphire.
Students appearing mid-term exams have been spending money buying candles and self employed youth running computer shops have been forced to close down due to non-supply of electricity thus hampering the business community. It may be mentioned that Kiphire town has been facing power shortage since September 7. According to JE Power Kiphire, the main transformer was burnt down due to over power consumption and long duration of power service.
On several occasion, minor repairing of transformer was done from Kiphire. Last year during the month of September the transformer had been sent down to Dimapur for major repairing which took 19 days to reach Kiphire.
At present, Kiphire main town transformer which is just 500 KV cannot cover the whole of Kiphire town.
Earlier, Kiphire town Sangtam Students’ Union has also appealed to chief engineer, Nagaland for immediate reinstallation of the outdated transformer.
