After elections of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) for various posts were disrupted by party members of one of the contenders for the top post of president on September 17 in Kohima, it was learnt that the AICC has decided to conduct the rescheduled elections “within a week” and likely by end of September or beginning of October. According to Congress sources, the two contenders for the post of president-incumbent I.Imkong and challenger S.I. Jamir along with MLAs- were summoned to New Delhi for consultations. The AICC for Nagaland and north east had postponed the rescheduled election for September 20 pending the decision of the party’s high command. Accordingly, sources said the two contenders and their supporters went to Delhi and also met with the AICC in-charge of north east Oscar Fernandes. According to the sources, the S.I. Jamir camp claimed support of around 52 members out of the total of 80. Jamir’s camp has demanded early elections in order to resolve the issue “once and for all” and want that members vote for the candidate of their choice and are opposed to any compromise candidate.
