KfW to fund climate change adaptation project

A KfW mission team comprising of Dr. Marcus Stewen, senior project manager, Guenther Haase, technical expert, and Nand Kishor Agrawal, project manager from KfW Development Bank, visited Nagaland from 26 to September 28, to appraise the feasibility of climate change adaptation (CCA) project in Nagaland, as part of CCA Programme in the Northeast.
The mission team discussed the project with chief secretary, additional chief secretary (Planning), senior policy makers, state task force on climate change (STF on CC) and NEPED project team.
The visit ended on September 28 with signing of Minutes of Meeting (MoM) between chief secretary, Nagaland Lalthara, IAS on behalf of government Nagaland and Dr. Marcus Stewen on behalf of the KfW (German financial cooperation programme) at the Conference Hall of the chief secretary, in the presence of development commissioner, Alemtemshi Jamir, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary Temjen Toy, IAS who is also the team leader NEPED and members of STF on CC.
With this, KfW has committed itself to fund financial cooperation project on climate change adaptation in Nagaland.
The project is intended to enhance the livelihood resilience and adaptive capacities of the rural people in Nagaland to climate change and variability.
The project would be implemented through various implementing partners including NEPED, relevant line departments and NGOs by developing investment interventions on climate change adaptation based on micro-plan developed with the villagers. The project is likely to take off by early 2012.
