Geleky – Yonglok road

Officials from Nagaland and Assam held a joint border peace meeting on September 24 at Geleky Naga Bazar and passed three resolutions, which included opening of Geleky – Yonglok road, formation of Border Peace Committee comprising of 21 members and opening of Singibil Naga Bazar. The joint meeting was attended by Nagaland parliamentary secretary, P. Dako Phom, Hemo Gogoi president Zilla Parishad Sivasagar, SDO (C) Tamlu, additional SP Longleng, border magistrate Nazira, circle inspector Nazira, public leaders, village council chairman of Bura Namsang, Tamlu, Shemnyuching, Yonglok, Shetap, Namha, Ngetchungching, Singibil and public of Assam and Nagaland. Dako Phom fervently appealed the people of the two states to maintain peace and harmony mentioning about the age-old relationship between the Ahom-Nagas, according to a press note issued by personal secretary to the parliamentary secretary. He talked about the advantages of reopening of Geleky Naga Bazar which could contribute to developing Geleky into a big town and asserted that the Bazar should be opened and peace and harmony maintained at all costs. According to the press release, Hemo Gogoi welcomed the guests from Nagaland especially the parliamentary secretary for taking the initiative to bring together the public of Assam and Nagaland for maintaining peaceful coexistence and development of border area.
