SF, police on alert over arms smuggling

After two militants of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group was nabbed for smuggling five hand grenades concealed in table lamps, security forces and police have been put on high alert to check import items-- electronics and toys from Myanmar. Bombs and small arms are smuggled by concealing it in these (toys and electronic items) packages. The duo was apprehended by Manipur police commandos and 28 AR, Monday.
Manipur DGP Y Joykumar Tuesday said that police had confirmed that grenades and small arms were smuggled through Moreh-Tamu International gates, opened for cross border trade.
“We have taken up necessary steps to prevent smuggling of these items. Police and security forces at the international border and along the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 have been asked to intensify frisking and checking to the imported electronic and toy items from Myanmar side,” Joykumar said at the surrender ceremony of 12 militants held at IGAR (S) complex Tuesday. 12 militants of PRA surrendered before the Manipur DGP, and IGAR (S), CA Krishnan along with seven arms including one AK-56 rifle, G-4 LMG and ammunitions.
