A joint mock drill conducted by the Gurgaon police and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos in Ambience Mall on Monday night turned out to be a real test for the security forces after a car was found abandoned in the basement parking. The owner of the vehicle was traced only after that the drill got over.
According to officers of the Gurgaon police, everything went smoothly for the first hour of the drill.
We found an abandoned vehicle in the basement parking of the mall. We were on our toes for sometime till the owner of the vehicle was traced,’’ said a senior police officer. The mock drill was being conducted to assess the preparedness of the local police and security forces ahead of the Commonwealth Games, reports Times News Network.
The abandoned car spread panic among the forces. Soon, the entire mall was dotted with police personnel. Everything went off track as soon as we spotted the abandoned car. We put everyone on high alert. We had to call a bomb disposal squad and also a dog squad. We could relax only after a three-hour-long exercise confirmed there was nothing inside the car,’’ said a senior police officer.
ACP (DLF) Sumit Kuhar said the owner of the vehicle was traced soon after the exercise was over. Considering the shopping complex in the mall is hosting the Gurgaon Shopping Festival, the Gurgaon police reportedly chose the largest mall in the city for the mock drill.
