The Indian Air Force (IAF) has invited applications from un-married male and female Indian citizens for grant of short service commission in flying (pilot) branch of the Indian air force, for the following courses for which training will commence in July 2011.
According to Col R K Palta, PRO (Defence), there would be 8 vacancies for short service commission (men) flying (pilot) course and 37 for short service commission (women) flying (pilot) course.
The last date for receipt of applications from candidates hailing from Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Assam Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep & Minicoy Islands is October 11.
Age Limit for candidates would be 19 to 23 years as on July 1, 2011 i.e. the candidates should be born between July 2, 1988 and July 1, 1992 (both dates inclusive).
The upper age limit for the candidates holding valid and current commercial pilot licence issued/validated by the DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 25 years i.e. candidates should be born between July 2, 1986 and July 1,1992 (both dates inclusive).
Interested candidates should have passed graduates (three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university and should have attained minimum 60% marks in the aggregate in all the papers put together and should have passed mathematics and physics at the 10+2 level or BE / B Tech degree (four year course) from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks in the aggregate in all the papers put together.
Candidates appearing in the final year/semester examinations may also apply, provided they do not have any present backlog and should have secured a minimum of 60% marks in all papers put together up to the last semester/year for which results have been declared at the time of applying/ FSB testing.
Candidates should make available provisional/original degree certificate, issued by the University, latest by June15, 2011.
The physical standards for the candidates are minimum height 162.5 cms with cor-related weight and leg length in the range of 99 cms (min) and 120 cms (max). : Visual acuity 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other eye, correctable to 6/6 only for hypermetropia. Manifest Myopia – nil. Lasik surgery for correction of vision is admissible in transport and helicopter streams of short service commission (flying branch) if the following conditions are fulfilled at the time of Air Force medical examination; lasik surgery should not have been carried out before the age of 20 years; the Axial Length of the eye should not be more than 25.5 mm as measured by IOL Master; at least twelve months should have lapsed post un-complicated stable lasik, and there should be no history or evidence of any complication.
The post lasik corneal thickness as measured by a corneal pachymeter should not be less than 450 microns. The individuals with high refractive errors (> 6D) prior to lasik will be excluded and that candidates must not suffer from colour blindness or from night blindness.
The other additional medical criteria would be evaluated by the Air Force medical authorities, whose decision on the fitness of the candidates would be final.

The envelope should be superscribed with: 8 SSC (M) F(P)/37 SSC (W) F (P) Course (As Applicable, as per the course applied for).
Application must also be accompanied by one self-addressed envelope (of size 23 x 10 cms) with postal stamps of `27/- pasted on it.
