Three years after the relations between the NSCN (I-M) Sumi national workers and Sumi public was severed following excommunication of prominent Sumi members from the NSCN (I-M) by the Sumi Hoho for not complying with a resolution passed by the Sumi public in 2007, a meeting was held on Tuesday between the two sides at Kiyeto village where they exchanged views on the issue. However, no specific decision was arrived at during the meeting. The ice-breaking meet was initiated by the NSCN (I-M) Sumi national workers.
According to the president of one Sumi organization, the NSCN (I-M) Sumi national workers urged the Sumi Hoho to revoke the excommunication order on its members for a healthy relationship between the two sides. In response, the Sumi Hoho said since the decision was taken by the Sumi public and not the Sumi Hoho alone, it has to go back to the public who took the decision and take their views on the matter. The source, however, added that the excommunication order could be “considerable.” A message from the NSCN (I-M) chairman Isak Chishi Swu was also read out at the meeting, the source said. Almost all Sumi national workers from both the civil and military set up attended the meeting. Representatives from the Sumi Hoho, SKK, WSH, Churches etc attended the meeting.
