A relative of a brick kiln owner who was abducted earlier this year was killed by his captors after confining him for about a month under their custody. The highly decomposed body of the victim was recovered by the police from a forest on Tuesday.
According to police, a complaint was received regarding the abduction of one Shyam Singh around February, 2010, by unknown miscreants. The miscreants, who were later found to be NDFB cadres, demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakhs from the victim’s family members.
Dimapur police who were keeping track on the negotiations raided several places in Assam along with their counter parts but without result. During the same time, the abductors who were demanding that the money be delivered in Assam stopped contacting the victim’s family. In the meantime, police also arrested one person identified as Nating Kachari in this connection.
After nearly 7 months, Dimapur police received an input on September 6 about the victim’s location. Dimapur police team raided Longtibok Boro Bosti along with the help of Assam police on Tuesday and apprehended one person identified as Jatin Basumatary. Based on his statement, police recovered the highly decomposed body of the victim from Dilai 10th mile area. It was later ascertained that the victim was killed by his captors somewhere around March 2010. The accused also further revealed that the other miscreants involved in the abduction were all NDFB cadres.
