State level science seminar concludes

State level science seminar on the topic “India and World Science: Are we there” was conducted on Wednesday day at Government High School Kohima auditorium with Thejao Kevin Sekhose, Class IX, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima bagging the first prize.
Inaugurating the seminar, school education, commissioner and secretary, Mhathung Kithan, IAS congratulated all the participants and called upon students to emphasize more on science since the main objective of the seminar is to inculcate the spirit of scientific temper and know the value and the contribution of science to mankind.
Citing examples of prominent Indian scientists like C.V. Raman. J.C. Bose and APJ Addul Kalam and their contribution of “India and world science” Are we there? He encouraged the participants to catch up with the rest of the world, stating one was living in a world of science and technology.
The programme was chaired by additional director, school education, N. Khevito Sema, opening song by government higher secondary school Kohima followed by opening of seminar by the chief guest.
The programme for the closing function and prize distribution was chaired by joint director, school education, V. Meyase, declaration of results and critical appreciation by the panel of judges, prize distribution by additional director school education and vote of thanks by deputy director, school education, Putoli L. Jamir.
Meanwhile, the winner of seminar would represent Nagaland at National Science Seminar 2010 at Visvesvraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore on October 8.
The seminar was organized by department of school education, with 15 participants (nine boys and six girls) from eight districts took part in the competition.
The second prize went to Toboli Z Wotsa, Class X, Olympic Higher Secondary School Zunheboto and the third prize went to Nungshijungla Jamir, Class X, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung. The three winners received Rs.5000 (1st), Rs.3000 (2nd) and Rs.2000 (3rd) along with a certificate each from the organizer.
The judges for the seminar were Dr. Rudra Baruah , Reader , Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, Daniel Thong, lecturer SCERT and Elizabeth, Lecturer NCTE.
