IPM training held in KVK Mokokchung

KVK Mokokchung organized an integrated pest management (IPM) training for TRC farmers of Kinunger village on September 4 at Tzube valley with an aim to impart knowledge and skill development in managing pest and diseases in the field.
With a first hand information and assessment related to farmers problems and needs the topic covered included skills of IPM, management of caseworm, stemborer, Brown Plant Hopper, Gundhi bug, leaf folder, ear cutting caterpillar, grasshopper, identification of pests and predators. The prevailing situation of bamboo flowering in the farmer’s field area, topic on rodent management and the life cycle of this present flowering bamboo spp was also impared and discussed. The topics were delivered by S. Sosang Jamir, programme coordinator, Samuel Sangtam, SMS (Agronomy) and Akangtemjen SMS, (Entomology).
The training was attended by 33 farmers and actively participated in field study, group presentation and discussion. During the open discussion the farmers put forward their insect pests and rodent problems which in turn management strategy were formulated as suggested by the resource persons and facilitators. The farmers appreciated the KVK staff for organizing the training and expressed delight on receiving the IPM kits.
