Palika in Mnp to oversee MPCC election

A member of the Central Election Authority of the AICC, Sanjoy Palika arrived Imphal Friday. He would act as the observer of the election for the post of president Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), and is likely to stay till inspection work related to filing of nomination is completed.
Filing of nomination would start September 12 till 13. District level party presidents, supporters of MLA E Dwijamani has started camping at the official quarter of the MLA since Thursday even though some were in favour of Gaikhagam retaining the post, a source said.
Source from the camp said the MLA, who was also the chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board is planning to file nomination paper for the said post on September 12.
As per notification issued by Oscar Fernandes on August 26, candidates wishing for the post of the state party president could file their nomination paper for candidature on September 12 and 13. Scrutiny will be carried out on September 14 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature will be September 15. The election of the MPCC president is scheduled to be held on September 17. With the election drawing near, differences among workers of the state Congress have surfaced as told by senior leaders of the party who revealed that there was a strong possibility of holding election for the post of president of MPCC.
However, sitting president Gaikhangam dismissed the report saying there were no differences among party leaders and workers in matters related to the election.
