Three persons including a discharged cadre belonging to different underground groups were arrested by the police on Thursday and Friday on charges of extortion. In the first case, one NSCN (IM) cadre identified as ‘ss’ OA-3 (office assistant) P S Pavei Poumai was apprehended by the police while his accomplice managed to escape. According to reports, the armed duo entered a mosque at Diphupar village at around 2.30 am while some people were fasting and demanded Rs. 200 each as ration tax from them. They also started assaulting all of them. On hearing about the incident a police team rushed to the spot and apprehended the NSCN (IM) cadre. A 7.65 pistol along with 7 rounds of ammo and two magazines were recovered from his possession. Meanwhile, one cadre of FGN identified as ‘ss’ pvt Kahoshe was apprehended by police after he along with two of his friends injured one person with a knife and pistol butt at Super Market area on Thursday. Immediately the entire area was cordoned off by police and the accused was arrested. Some demand notes, a knife and a magazine were recovered from his possession. Police also added that the accused was also involved in another extortion case and attempted murder on a business man which took place on September 4 last. While on Friday, police arrested one person identified as Shikato, a discharged cadre of GPRN/NSCN, for extorting money from Railway colony. A .32 pistol along with four live rounds of ammo were seized from his possession.
