Handloom expo in Mon

National Handloom Expo 2010 was inaugurated by DC Mon Dinesh Kumar, IAS as the chief guest on September 10 at local football ground, Mon town. In his inaugural speech DC said handloom and handicrafts was a sector which could provide job opportunity and needed lots of improvement. Stating that Mon district had lots of potentiality in the handloom sector he called upon weavers to adopt diversity of production with latest designs and techniques with value added goods for commercial purpose so as to uplift the rural economy.
DC also lamented that beneficiaries under PMEGP and CMCF had not implemented according to policies and guide lines of Government, he said objectives of the Government’s program was to provide self employment to the unemployed youth through such programs and added that Government departments had less Job opportunity so industrial development had to be encouraged.
He also informed that Mon district would select 75 entrepreneurs as part of Year of Entrepreneurs 2010.
Training, capacity building and technical inputs will be given to the selected entrepreneurs.
Joint director industries & commerce Kahoto Sumi Nagaland in his short speech said that aim of the Expo was to assist weavers to sell out their old products. He also exhorted the weavers and the beneficiaries to utilize the sanctioned fund judiciously.
He also urged the district industries to promote grass root level through the departmental fund.
The Expo is funded by Development Commission (Handloom) Ministry of Textile Government of India will remain open till September 30.
