CSDD on role, function of fair price shops

The Consumer Society, Dimapur District (CSDD) has presented roles and function of fair price shops (FPS) under targeted Public distribution system (TPDS).
The FPS union Dimapur registered under Home department or from any other competent authority department have been requested to implement the aims and objectives of the registered FPS union in the interest of identified consumers for transparent public distribution system for successful implementation of TPDS scheme.
A press release issued by CSDD president T. Hetoyi Yeptho and press secretary Pradip Sethi has listed roles and functioning of FPS under TPDS that sign board must indicate the name of FPS dealer, FPS license number, location, open on the fixed days of month, working hours etc so that card holders would get their quota of ration on the fixed days of the month regularly. BPL/AAY card holders who cannot afford to buy the entire entitlement 28 kgs and 7 kgs wheat, flour at a time would be allowed to buy in installments but within the allotted month, it added.
Similarly, another board showing the date of transaction, name of commodities, stock position at the opening of the day, rate per qtl etc., separately for BPL and APL has been asked to be put on display inside the FPS outlet in an eminent place. It also added that the list of beneficiaries allotted to FPS mentioning ration card number, name of ration card holders, his, her full address, and number of family members under each scheme should be displayed for public scrutiny.
Further, to maintain receipt and distribution of food grains registered in transparent and accountable way scheme-wise, the CSDD stated FPS should have a tear off page system so that the FPS committees, if formed, for the interested groups of all areas should be able to have a copy for the purpose of cross checking after payment of nominal fee.
Each FPS have been asked to maintain ration card register and sales register showing card number, name of card holder, commodity and quantity issued, along with signature or the thumb impression of the recipient.
Grievance redressal address for the notice of the ration card holders’ attached to the respective FPS should be displayed in the information board, stated CSDD and that ration cards issued on FPS should not be taken as documents of identity but issue of entitlement.
