Reports received here indicate that the 10 NAP(IRB) sent to Purulia, West Bengal, for anti-Naxal operations, has already been inducted for active duties.
It may be mentioned that prior to induction for field operations, any newly deployed force needs to be given a few months to get acquainted with the local situation. It was reported that the 10 IRB has been attached with a CRPF battalion located near Purulia and engaged in field duties. Official sources speaking on condition of anonymity, also said six companies of the 10 IRB are being commanded by Inspectors instead of DSPs owing to shortage of officers.
Three DSPs have been sent as company commanders of the battalion while three would be on their way.
The shortage of newly recruited DSPs was due to litigation over declaration of results for the NPS cadre.
A bizarre situation has arisen as all units would be commanded by newly recruited officers straightaway without the time for building up trust and rapport with the jawans before leading them for active field duty.
This itself reveals that the new company commanders would hardly have time to get acquainted with their men that could have some bearing on the desired level of rapport and trust need especially when in a combat zone. The demand for Naga IRBs has risen after the trail blazing 9 IRB (Daring Ninth)carved a niche for itself during anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh. The 1 NAP deployed in Delhi was supposed to have returned home in August but owing to demands,it will remain for another year.
