Envoys briefed on security, dengue

Senior officials from the External Affairs and other Ministries briefed envoys from the Commonwealth countries on the security aspect of the upcoming Games here on Wednesday. According to the Hindu, over 40 envoys were present at the briefing held by Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and other senior officials.
The diplomats were assured that all steps were being taken to ensure foolproof security and control vector-borne diseases such as dengue. The briefing was done after as many as two dozen countries had taken note of the reports on dengue and sought clarifications from the government.
Most missions had also sought updates and assurances on the security to be provided to athletes, officials and visitors to the Games, beginning here next month.
A detailed presentation on the different aspects of the Games and the facilities being provided was made by Press Information Bureau’s principal director-general Neelam Kapoor.
Other senior officers present includedSports Secretary Sindhushree Khullar, Health Secretary K. Sujatha Rao and Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta.
