Goa police October 9 rescued 11 girls including six Naga girls from a beauty parlour in Porvorim, Goa and arrested five persons on charges of trafficking. The arrested include one Shanta a.k.a Laxmi Mishra, the owner of the parlour, and four her men. The girls were trafficked to Goa with a promise to get work in a beauty parlour and then forced into the flesh trade. According to reports, the crime branch raided Lotus Beauty Parlour October 9 night and rescued eight girls. Three more girls, who were hiding from Mishra since October 4 last, were also rescued by the police later. The incident was exposed when three Mizo girls had called their relatives in Mizoram and spilled the beans. A police complaint was lodged in Mizoram and Mizoram police along with a local NGO contacted Goa-based NGO with detailed information. Based on the information police raided the beauty parlour premises. “They have revealed that they were trafficked to Goa with the promise to work in a beauty parlour and then forced into the flesh trade. If they refused they were punished,” said police sources. “Mishra had agents who would hire girls from North Eastern states and then traffic them to Goa for the flesh trade. We also learned that recently she had gone to Nagaland to recruit,” police added. The rescued girls have been sent to a protective home.
