The district court in Mokokchung has fixed October 22 as the date for next hearing of defence witnesses on Specular North East (SNE) swindle case involving SNE managing director R.K Nath a.k.a Shambu Das, who has been charged with embezzlement of about Rs. 80 lakh. He is liable to pay the charged amount to 250 SNE employees and 7000-8000 depositors.
The last witness hearing against R.K. Nath was held October 8 last.
In a statement, the SNE Nagaland branch and sub-branch offices today said negotiations have been made numerously with its accused managing director but there has been no positive response from him rather he was stubborn in admitting his faults. “On some occasions he would say that he will clear all liabilities and at times he would say that its better to stay in Jail and better to die or that he would be free after one or two years of imprisonment,” the statement said.
The state SNE offices alleged that, its MD, who was currently behind bars at district jail, Mokokchung, was enjoying more than the comforts and amenities prescribed for an inmate of a jail.
They alleged that he was enjoying freedom of making telephone calls “whenever or whoever he wants to call, to those persons who are hand in gloves with him.”
The SNE Nagaland branch officials also claimed the accused has been availed with all the necessities and was enjoying comfortable life inside the prison. “These allegations are not based on false ground but these things have been state by himself (R.K. Nath),” they maintained.
In connection with this, the SNE queried the jailor of Mokokchung district jail if such activities and privileges were acceptable.
They have urged the jailor to look into the matter “very seriously” and ensure that such person was allowed to enjoy any additional privileges and comforts.
Meanwhile, the Mokokchung jailor, when contacted by Nagaland Post over the phone, flatly denied the allegations and said nothing as such was taking place inside the jail. SNE offices also urged authorities, handling the case, to take appropriate steps and speedy actions so that every person cheated got justice.
Members have also been requested to be patient and cooperate with the SNE staff. Further, it informed all responsible to appear and witness the hearing against R.K. Nath and extend ample support so that it could become “a collective view in order to bring justice.”
