Phom area youth convention organized by Phom Baptist Christian Association was held from October 7 to 10 at Longleng on the theme “Impact.”
Walter Heidenriech, president, free Christian youth community, Germany and Sandro Galanti, pastor, Switzerland were the speakers, while Dengerin Doo an international worship team from Germany led the worship. Speakers at the workshop were Sonia Singh (IPS) SP Longleng, Lipok, Sanni and Tali Angh.
A workshop on climate change and bio- diversity was also organized supported by NEPED, government of Nagaland on October 10 with Raj. K. Verma, addl. secretary and deputy team leader NEPED as resource person.
Phom youth, during the convention resolved to restrict use of gun, catapult for hunting and other chemicals in the streams and rivers for fishing within its respective areas and for strict implementation in all the Phom areas; convince village councils, student bodies to declare certain areas as restricted/preserved areas/community reserve forest in all villages; every youth in the convention would plant at least 5 trees every year for the next five years; impart knowledge on climate change and eco-biological friendly actions to family, schools, colleges and to the Phom people in general; the youth (CYE/student groups) would urge the concerned authority for environment friendly disposal of garbage; discourage use of inorganic fertilizers and chemical pesticides (encourage use of organic fertilisers- eg. Vermicompost, and organic pesticides- eg. garlic/chilli/ginger paste) for agricultural purposes and declare Longleng as an organic land (organic district); translate journals, video clips, magazines and articles related to climate change and bio-diversity into local dialect to creating awareness and take initiatives in sensitizing the issue; and climate change and bio-diversity to be part of the Sunday school material.
For successful implementation of these resolutions, the Phom youth stated it would work closely with the village councils, VDBs and concerned departments for strict implementation of environmental concerns projects in Longleng district.
