Police are there to serve the people, maintain peace, tranquility and law and order in the society, DGP K. Kire said today while inaugurating the new Police Control Room infront of the state police headquarters here Wednesday.
He called upon the rank and file of the police department to be prompt in their response to the call of duty. “Police is there to serve the people, we’re not the master and in fact we’re the servant” the DGP said.
People will come to police when they need their service and will judge the police on their response. If the response to any complaints is not prompt, it will be unfair, Kire said.
Citing an example of complaint of theft, he said, you may not catch the thieves but the aggrieved persons will see your response and appreciate you, he said and called upon the officers to take pride in their duty and be conscious in their duty and serve the people dutifully.
On the other hand, the DGP claimed that state unlike any other north eastern states is doing very well in the implementation of police modernization scheme. An audit team from the MHA had recently visited the state and during the course of interaction, the MHA team had appreciated the state PHQ for successful implementation of Police Modernization scheme. When they were told that the state had a very friendly government which is very sympathetic to the PHQ, the MHA team lauded the PHQ for being very fortunate.
He also revealed that the MHA team had revealed that implementation of Police Modernization scheme in other Northeastern state are not successful. Citing example that in Arunachal Pradesh, the Police Modernization file does not move while Assam could implement only 60% of the fund allocated to the state under police modernization scheme.
The DGP also expressed gratefulness to the MHA for sanctioning funds for the construction of the new multi storey building that housed Police Control Room, Crime Control and Tracking Network (CCTN), Pol Net, Traffic Police Data Centre and other communications facilities such as the VHF and satellite communication which is also been shared by other central paramilitary forces deployed in the state.
Finally, we’re proud and I hope that with the new building, our service to the people will also improve, he added.
With the new building located in a very convenient location, the DGP also further mooted that the Traffic Control room could be shifted to the new building. The new multi storied building meant for the police control room and communication centre constructed at the site of the old SP office infront of the state PHQ was constructed at a cost of ` 80.15 lakh sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs through four different projects.
