In Assam, the five-day Durga Puja festival begins with traditional fervour and all round festivity. In greater Guwahati city alone, around five hundred Puja pandals are being erected with establishment of Devi idols on the Durga Sasthi today.
Traffic routes on some vital roads have been re-aligned in view of the rush of Puja revelers, particularly in the evening hours.
Meanwhile, the State Government has reviewed the law and order situation and alerted the district authorities to keep a close watch on the misguided elements those may disturb the Puja festivity.
Additional forces are being deployed in all the vulnerable points to monitor the situation. Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik and the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi have sent their good wishes to the people of the State on the occasion of the Durga Puja.
