The 20 Assam Rifles under aegis of 5 Sector AR under HQ IGAR(S) organised a medical camp at Medziphima town council ground on October 11. This camp integrated the doctors and medical staff of Community Health Centre of the sub division and 20 soldiers of 14 IRB under training for nursing at the battalion headquarter.
According to a defence release, a total of 24 villages participated in this camp where free health check up along with free medicine was provided to approximately 1750 men and women. Since outbreak of Hepatitis is a common phenomenon in north east, vaccination was also administered to a 127 individuals. A mobile detachment was also sent to all the 24 villages to provide medical aid at the door step.
Doctors also visited St. Francis School and carried out medical examination of approximately 350 students. The camp was inaugurated by the Commandant, 20 Assam Rifles in the presence of Doungel, additional deputy commissioner, Dr. T. Temsu Imsong, medical officer CHC, Medziphima, and Medziphima town council members. Booklets on freedom from HIV and AIDS were also distributed to all.
The locals were assured of full support for various social welfare measures in the future to alleviate their living condition. In this regard, the villagers and elders appreciated the initiative of the AR and conveyed their whole hearted support to the security forces.
Speaking informally during the camp Ming stated the camp was held at the most appropriate time with monsoons coming to an end and a number of health issues effecting the local population due to change of season.
