Nagaland police today officially confirmed the arrest of eight persons in connection with the trafficking of eleven girls from northeast including six Naga and five Mizo girls to Porvorim, Goa’s legislative capital. The girls were promised jobs in a beauty parlour but forced into the flesh trade.
Informing that Goa police has officially informed Nagaland about the arrests, PRO S.T. Sangtam, IGP today said Women police station Panaji has registered cases, CR No.3/10 U/S 3,4,5,6 & 7 of ITP Act and section 8 of Goa children’s Act 2003, against those arrested on October 9.
One Mizo girl was only aged 17 and therefore was a minor under the act, he said.
He said of those arrested, one was from New Delhi, three from UP, one Vanlaluati from Mizoram and Alex from Manipur.
He also disclosed that a team from Dimapur police including personnel from Women police station Dimapur would be sent to Goa to escort back the rescued Naga girls. The team would leave for Goa on October 15.
He said the ball started rolling after an e-mail was sent to Goa women police from certain NGOs based in Shillong and Aizawl. Acting on it, raids were conducted at a flat in Betalbhatim and thereafter at the said parlour in presence of Panchas and NGOs. During the raid, five girls including the minor from Mizoram and six from Nagaland were rescued, he said.
Mizoram police has already sought production warrant to bring the owner of a beauty parlour in Goa to Aizawl who allegedly tried to force four Mizo girls into prostitution.
