Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) on Thursday’s general session adopted a 6-point resolution, which stated that it had no objection to the representation/participation of women in Naga society be it municipal/town councils or other local bodies, but firmly resolved not to allow appointment of women as GBs. It is to “preserve the traditional institution of Naga customary custodian of GB.” NGBF said. The GBs extended support to the resolutions adopted by NLA with regard to land resources and usages that the fate of the Nagas must be decided by the Naga people and not by non-locals based on Article 371 (A). The NGBF, however, said that the government must deal with the landowners with proper understanding. It also urged the government to enhance and pay at least Rs.10000 to those GBs who expired or retired after serving 10 years and above, Rs.25000 to those GBs who die while in service and Rs.50000 to GBs who die while in government or official duty as life insurance NGBF also thanked the government for implementing GBs Corpus Fund (GCF) and resolved that payment should be effected from 2004, starting year of the scheme. Further, it resolved to sanction at least Rs. 5 lakhs annually for office maintenance of NGBF and district GB associations’ out of GCF interest money. The house also thanked the chief guest, guest of honour and all participants for attending the general session. The NGBF resolution was signed by outgoing president, K. Vikuto Zhimomi and general secretary, A. Taku Longkumer.
