Cops stab cop to death in Kiphire

A policeman identified as UBC, T.Yangpise Sangtam of DEF, Kiphire was reportedly stabbed to death by jawans of 11 NAP (IR) Bn in Kiphire October 14 at around 10 p.m. here. The victim was stabbed in the abdomen with a sharp weapon.
Reportedly, the victim had gone to his house with the wounds, but was immediately shifted to hospital by family members. He later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
The four accused have been identified as Mhabemo Lotha, Nusakhoyi Chakesang, Yingyu Phom of XI NAP (IR) and Viseilie Angami of 3rd NAP Kiphire. The three IR jawans have been placed under suspension with immediate effect. The agitated mob comprising relatives and friends of the victim today gathered at Kiphire police station and demanded the police to hand over the culprits to them. The mob became wild and vandalized all furniture, doors and windows of police thana, Kiphire.
It was only after the intervention of USLB, USSC, GBs and AR personal, the situation was normalized. They agitated from morning till noon.
The dead body was later handed over to the family members.
All the accused were under Kiphire police station custody and investigation was on till the time of filing this report.
Cops placed under suspension
Strongly condemning the “dastardly” act of unit members, the commandant of XI NAP (IR) battalion today said the three jawans have been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
According to a statement from unit commandant, the personnel identified as C/N R.Mhabemo Lotha (R/no.110425), C/N M.Yungyu Phom (R/no.110443) and L/Nk Nusakhoyi Chakhesang (R/no110713) reportedly stabbed late UBC T.Yangpise Sangtam of DEF Kiphire under the influence of alcohol. The victim later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, it stated.
The CO of 11 NAP (IR) also stated that departmental enquiry have been initiated concurrently with criminal proceedings.
“Appropriate stringent disciplinary action shall be taken against the erring personnel,” commandant said.
Meanwhile, the 11th NAP (IR) unit has conveyed “deepest sympathy and condolences” to the bereaved family, and prayed Almighty God grant them inner strength at this moment of grief.
