The Territorial Army (TA) celebrated its 61st Raising Day on October 9. As part of the ongoing series of events planned to commemorate the occasion, Col KB Jairaj, Commanding Officer, 164 Inf Bn (TA) (H&H) NAGA and his team of officers called upon His Excellency, Nikhil Kumar, the governor at the Raj Bhawan, followed by a meeting with Neiphiu Rio, chief minister of Nagaland on October 12.
The visit at Raj Bhawan and CM’s secretariat culminated in the traditional gifting of the Territorial Army mementos by the Commanding Officer on behalf of the Commander, TA Gp HQ, Eastern Command.
According to a defence release, the governor and chief minister lauded the battalion’s efforts and Territorial Army in rendering a yeomen service to the nation since its inception.
The Territorial Army was raised by L. Rajagopalachari, the first governor general of free India on October 9, 1949.
