Managing director, national horticulture board (NHB) and chairman, small farmer’s agri-business consortium (SFAC) Bijay Kumar (IAS), along with other officials visited Nagaland on October 9 and 10.
It was the first ever visit of the director to Nagaland in his three years tenure as Managing Director of NHB. The other officials of the team were D. Bhuyan, project coordinator, SFAC, R.K.Sharma, deputy director, NHB, Surendra Singh, assistant director, NHB, Guwahati.
The visit was a follow up of the initiative taken by CIH, NHB & ICCOA for direct marketing of pineapple from Molvom village to New Delhi during July 17 to 25.
Bijay Kumar (IAS) first visited CIH, Medziphema and interacted with the technical staff of the Institute and later had a meeting with farmers, state horticulture officers and CIH staff at SASRD auditorium where issues related to NHB schemes for marketing of horticulture produce, post-harvest aspects like pack house and transportation as well as plantation of horticulture crops were discussed.
Managing director, NHB impressed upon farmers that NHB would give full support to farmers especially to farmers who have zeal to improve cultivation practices through technological interventions.
He expressed happiness over the initiative taken by CIH for the farmers of the state and expressed hope on future collaboration with CIH, Nagaland state horticulture department and the farmers group for implementing various central schemes for development of horticulture sector in the state.
The team also visited Molvom pineapple farm and was impressed with the huge plantation of pineapple in clusters.
He encouraged the farmers to keep up the good work and assured his full support. He also met village leaders and invited them to take active part in the proposed exhibition cum sale at Bangalore scheduled for November 24 to 29 which NHB, CIH and state horticulture department have planned to organize.
Later, a meeting was held with H. K. Khulu (IAS), commissioner & principal secretary, Government of Nagaland along with other state government officials at NSAMB Complex, 4th mile Dimapur to discuss about forthcoming NE Marketing Summit, where NHB has to play a key role on behalf of department of agriculture & cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. This was followed by a visit to NE Agri. Expo site to take stock of things before his meeting with officials at Delhi for NE agri. expo as well as the marketing summit.
The managing director along with visiting officials, state government officials and CIH staff visited various horticulture project sites in Dimapur district.
State government officials from department of horticulture included Joseph Humtsoe, director; Dr. Benjong Aier, Mission Director (TMNE) and E.Natso, DHO, Dimapur coordinated with Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema.
