3-day KA strike begins

First 12-hour of the three-day Karbi Anglong bandh, called by KAASDCOM (Karbi Anglong autonomous state demand committee), passed off without report of any incident. The strike was called to press the demand for creating an autonomous state comprising Karbi Anglong and NC Hills Autonomous hills district of Assam. The response of the strike was spontaneous in all the three subdivision of Karbi Anglong district. Diphu was totally out of gear, as markets, government offices, banks, secretariat of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), DC’s office remained closed. However, the rail service between Lumding and Moriani was normal. National highways 39 and 37 recorded very less traffic, Nagaland and Monipur bound trucks and other vehicles were passed with police escort.
