Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC) has strongly objected to the ‘fragmentation’ of Yimchungrü area by the NSCN (I-M) in the form of imposing ‘Saramati Region’ in Pungro area.
YTC declared, “under no circumstances the Yimchungrü tribe shall tolerate decimation of the Yimchungru tribe/area for some vested interest and for petty personal gain.”
According to a joint statement issued by YTC working president, Kius Chuba and general secretary, Tokiu S. Yimchungru, the Yimchungru, tribe consisted of a population of more than lakh over 84 villages from Saramati (Pungro Area) to Herupong (Tuensang & Dimapur District).
Stating that fragmentation/subjugation/imposition and divide and rule policy was alien to Naga tribe/tradition/culture, the YTC on behalf of the entire Yimchungru public declared that the people’s demand was for Yimchungrü Saramati Region (YSR) within Yimchungru jurisdiction and not as Yimchungru Region (for Shamator/Chessor area) & Saramati Region (for Chirr/Makory/Lungphur/Tikhir & Para tribe in Pungro Area).
It interpreted the declaration and mobilization of Saramati Region in Pungro area as: “Imposition of Saramati Region” much against the will of the simple public; “Subjugating/ignoring” the people’s simple wish/ demand & rights; and “dividing/fragmenting” the Yimchungrü area into pieces vis-à-viS, Saramati-Region & Yimchungru-Region (Pungro & Shamator/Chessor respectively). YTC said this was happening because of some vested interested nation worker/s to advance their personal gain under the pretext of nation building, which was condemnable by all.
YTC stated that the Chirr/Makory/Longphur/Tikhir/Phunung & Langa, were only dialects. It said this different dialect speaking people merged together and decided to call themselves as “Yimkhiungru” (search-reach/found, which in due course of time, the usage of Yimkhiungru tribe became Yimchungru) and not as different tribes that merged and called themselves as Yimchungru. YTC maintained it was generally understood by others that the wishes/voice and demand of these people was to remain as Yimchungrü tribe and said “no” to imposition of Saramati Region in Pungro area.
YTC therefore, said it was supporting the wise & bold decision of the GB’s Union and Public Forum Pungro Sub Division in objecting to the creation of Saramati Region. YTC appealed to all rank and files in the NSCN (I-M) to listen to the public’s simple decision to remain as “one tribe-one Region” (Yimchungrü Saramati Region/Yimchungru Region) and not to fragment the Yimchungru area because of some vested interested individual which only demeaned the national principle.
Stating that the Yimchungrü tribe was second to none in national participation, the YTC said it had always upheld the integrity of national principle above the tribal issues and shall continue to do so. YTC said it extended all co-operation towards nation building.
