Bus plunges into drain

Ten persons were seriously injured when a bus NL-0AB 9594 while moving from Dimapur to Jalukie, overturned and plunged into a drain at km 136 near Jharnapani on Wednesday at around 1:30pm.
According to Maj RP Velu, PRO, IGAR (N) there were 23 passengers traveling in the bus at the time of accident. Two teams of 20 Assam Rifles from Ghaspani and Kukidolong along with the medical officer and ambulance rushed to the spot and carried out rescue and relief operations. A 2 hour long rescue led to recovery of ten seriously injured persons which included three ladies. All the injured were provided with first aid on the spot by the medical officer and his team and the ones with head and bone injury were treated at the battalion hospital. The injured were later transferred to CHC, Medziphema and civil hospital, Dimapur. The driver abandoned the bus and ran away from the site of accident fearing the wrath of the passengers. Later the police from Medziphema joined in to carry out the investigation.
