After repeated appeal to the power department and ultimatum served by United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) to chief engineer electricity, the power department Kiphire on Thursday finally assured to restore power in Kiphire.
This assurance was given at a meeting held on at deputy commissioner’s chamber Kiphire in the presence of executive engineer (electrical) who is also the in-charge of Kiphire district.
The meeting was attended by ADC, SP Kiphire SDO (E), United Sangtam Students’ Conference Officials, GBs and public leaders of Kiphire with DC Kiphire C.M Tsanglao chairing the meeting. DC lamented on the failure of the electrical department stating it has been operating for a long period without any concern for the people.
United Sangtam Students’ Conference president Likhumba highlighting the ultimatum which was served to the department said the power department did not pay attention to the people’s plea particularly in Kiphire, and added all works of Kiphire were paralyzed since September 7 causing great difficulty particularly to the student’s community.
With the assurance form the executive engineer (electrical) to restore the 100 KV transformer on or before October 26 and 500KV transformer by November 3, the United Sangtam Students’ Conference has re-considered its ultimatum, however USSC may resume its agitation if the department fail to meets its demand, added the president.
Executive Engineer (Electrical) while regretting for the inconvenience caused to the citizens of Kiphire, appealed the United Sangtam Students’ Conference to consider their ultimatum by explaining that the outdated transformer would take about 15 - 16 days since it was still under repair in central store Dimapur.
Meanwhile, EE and SDO (E) further assured to extend cooperation in executing the departmental welfare works in addition to the restoration of the power failure in the district.
