Police commando injured in counter insurgency op

A police commando sustained bullet injury Friday when one of his colleagues accidentally fired out shots from his service rifle during a counter insurgency operation, launched at Ichum hill in Bishnupur district. According to official reports, the injured commando was identified as T Angte Maring (30) and had been shifted at RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
In another unrelated incident, an extortionist was caught by villagers of Yaingangpokpi under Lamlai police station of Imphal east district and handed over to the police. According to police, the extortionist was an activist of KCP (MTF), identified as Laishram Ibungcha and demand letters were also recovered from him.
Meanwhile, a 58 year old woman identified as Pishak Devi, also an activists of KCP was nabbed by a combined force of Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Li and handed over to police.
further, police Commandos in Thoubal district of Manipur on Friday protested against suspension of three of their colleagues. Three police commandos and two IRB personnel were placed under suspension for excessive use of force while quelling a crowd on the Tuesday night at Thoubal district police headquarters. Decrying the move of the higher authority, commandos including officials below inspector rank in a meeting held at Thoubal District CDO complex decided to cease work registering strong protest against the move of the higher authority. Justifying their stance over the matter, one of the personnel of the unit said that they had done this only to control the crowd as they stormed the SP office despite repeated warning. They had not fired intentionally, he said on condition of anonymity.
