: BJP Nagaland state while welcoming state government’s initiative for formulating guidelines/ modalities for exploration of mineral oil and natural gas in the state, has appealed state government to lay strong effective guidelines before signing MoU with any reputed oil companies, firms especially on mineral resources including petroleum gas within the state.
In an open letter to state chief minister Neiphiu Rio, BJP general secretary, Yambos Murry, said state government must enforce strong law in dealing with such major issues and also understand ground realities to avoid any obstruction for formulating guidelines/ modalities for exploration in the state. Citing an example of oil exploration at Champang area by the ONGC, state BJP said it was an “unpleasant experience and an ugly memory” since the then government failed to check the mismanagement of guidelines of oil exploration processed during the nineties. This, the state BJP was the reason behind loss of crores of rupees of public and government revenue.
State BJP also said ONGC had randomly tapped several millions of oil from Champang oil field and left without settling the due share of Champang villagers and pointed out the state government failed to protect environment by checking oil spillage.
State BJP meanwhile added it would support any constructive policy for developmental projects that would benefit the citizens and appealed all people to maintain constructive roles without hampering developmental projects.
