Parliamentary team arrives in Imphal

A five member team of the "First Sub-Committee of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language" arrived here Sunday for two days visit in state. The team included deputy chairman, Raijya Sabha MP Satyavaral Chaturvedi, Pradeep Tanta MP Lok Sabha, Dara Singh Chauhan MP Lok Sabha, Sreegopal Vyas MP Raijya Sabha and under secretary LR Yadav. They would take stock of implementation of various central sponsored schemes and programmes for the development of official language, Hindi, in the state under the Official Language of the Union under Article 343(1).
The committee shall be reviewing the progress made in the use of Hindi for the official purposes of the Union and submit its report to the President making necessary recommendations.
Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot dead a zilla parishad member who was also MPP member at his house at Nambol Thiyam in Bishnupur district on late Saturday night. The police recovered two empty cases of AK series rifles from the spot. Six unidentified gunmen suspected to be cadres of an underground group shot at him last night around 10 pm, police said today. In another unrelated incident, a 58-year old man and his son were arrested by Manipur police on charges of manufacturing country made arms and supplying it to the underground outfits.
A team of police commandos in Imphal east arrested the duo, identified as Thingam Sharat alias Sharatchandra and his 25-year old son Thingam Boy alias Suresh from their residence at Khurai Cheithabi Leirak on Friday night and handed over to the Porompat police station.
According to police, a 9 mm pistol (China made) and two printing figure sheets for identification marks were recovered during the raid. Further, two PREPAK and one Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRF) cadres were nabbed by troops of Assam Rifles in separate counter insurgency operations and handed over to nearby respective police stations.
The PREPAK cadres identified as Khongbantabam Iyatombi (44) and Thangjam Binoy (47) were apprehended by troops of 23 AR from Taret Khun village under Lamlai police station of Imphal east district.
Further, troops of 36 AR nabbed the KRF cadre identified as Hentensei Chongloi alias Anand Chongloi (36) in Senapati district and handed over to Kangpokpi police station on Saturday. Demand letter of KRF and a mobile handset were recovered from his possession, police said.
