6 killed as jeep-trailer falls into gorge in Meghalaya

A five-year-old boy and five women were killed and 13 critically injured here in Meghalaya when a jeep-trailer fell into a deep gorge Monday, police said
The mishap occurred at Ryndang Briew near Barapani lake about 10 kilometer from Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, when the driver of the speeding jeep lost control over the vehicle, deputy superintendent of Police S.W. Malai said over phone from the spot.
According to police, the jeep-loaded with people were on the way from Mawlai to a nearby stream for washing clothes following bereavement in the family.
“The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained as we are still investigating into the accident,” Malai said.
Meanwhile, the injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Shillong.
